design et al are delighted to announce that House Of Beast won the Residential £2.5-5 Million Project By Value Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2016.
The Playhouse, a 6000-square feet, two-level apartment, is situated in a typical Hong Kong industrial building. The client wants the team at House Of Beast to transform this space into a private hideaway for parties and as a holiday home. Recreated into an industrial loft, the materials have been carefully sourced worldwide. Aged Italian brick tiles, blacken steel I-beams and cement panels throughout complete the retro rustic atmosphere of a New York-style loft.
At the lower level, the main part of the loft is organized into a social dining area featuring an immense reclaimed wood ceiling with various combination of tin ceiling panel above the custom-made communal dining table. A whole new experience of a traditional Japanese cuisine, the teppanyaki counter is assembled with vibrant shades of marble and onyx to create recurrent geometric patterns with an eclectic mix of furniture by moroso, stellar works, and de sede, which is the highlight of the project. Subtle masculinity at the bar area using brownish grey marble and brass accents provide a modern retro look and a stark contrast with the brass anodized metal mesh details of the industrial-style staircase.
Equally creative, albeit relaxing atmosphere, the modern vintage theme continues to the upper level, where the interior embodies an eclectic mix of brass and concrete panelled ceiling. Elegant, but not decadent, the master en-suite is softly tailored with a rich texture of materials. The designers custom designed a gallery-like steel frame to support the massive wood headboard with the bedside drawer floating on both sides. Not only did they work on a project that would satisfy the client’s needs, but they were also able to surpass everyone’s expectations in its functionality and aesthetic beauty.
