design et al are delighted to announce that Mark Taylor Design have been shortlisted for Living Space – UK Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017.
Mark Taylor Design were appointed to complete a transformation of one living space room. Their client opted for an Art Deco inspired bar and relaxing room. After studying many Art Deco images and using his knowledge from attending a furniture college, the designer created this journey back in time.
The room was stripped back, to create corner columns and alcoves with stud work and plaster and designed a huge coving with lighting behind. This challenge was taken on by Hutts Coving. The stained glass window was said to be a delight to design. Corianda Glass studio worked with Mark Taylors concept and design to find glass to suitably match the Art Deco theme.
Every aspect of this project was bespoke. The workshop used a vacuum press and moulds to create the shapes that Mark Taylor designed. The wall cabinets, coffee table, tall glass units, radiator covers and side table were all designed to be sympathetic with a 1920s image. The bespoke velvet sofa has a fabulous impact when you first walk in to the room.
Mark Taylor’s favourite aspect of the room renovation was the stained glass work. The wow factor of the stained glass and the burnt orange sofa instantly make an impact when you first walk in the room, with all the other aspects keeping your eyes moving around the room. This is a room that transports one to the 1920s.
