design et al are delighted to announce that Maisha Design have been shortlisted for City Space (Apartment/Penthouse) Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017.
Maisha Design were approached by their clients to design a 3 bedroom London retreat into an apartment full of character and edge. It being their second home they were eager to create a unique and bold interior using a variety of materials. The interior is therefore distinguished by beautiful bespoke furniture and an emphasis on the use of natural materials such as brass, copper, wood and horn in both the bedroom, study and living areas. To elevate the apartment, Maisha Design chose a striking colour palette throughout the interior which is stunningly complemented by the clients’ extensive art collection.
In the living area, Maisha Design decided on a gorgeous scheme of copper and indigo tones, creating a moody and luxurious living space, perfect for entertaining and relaxing. Bespoke joinery with copper inlays is the focal point in the living room. A low L-shaped sofa in a dark indigo linen is covered in scatter cushions in stunning shades of copper and cream. A large tan leather footstool serves as a coffee table. To complement the scheme, while providing extra seating, are two tub chairs in luxurious cream velvet and metallic copper and gold fabric on the back. The star of the room however is the stunning Ava dining table from Tom Faulkner with a patinated copper base and smokey glass top.
To tie in with the living room scheme, in the open plan kitchen, Maisha Design selected a bold grey blue lacquer for the cabinets which is picked up in the striking grey veins of the statuario marble worktop and splash back. This is contrasted with the stunning copper bar which separates the kitchen from the living room. The study, which is separated from the hallway by a glass wall is a gorgeous mix of brass, dark wood and blues. The bespoke desk unit was designed with plenty of shelving for books and accessories and accentuated with brass plates which act as book ends. There is also a built in light which functioned as a desk light as well as highlighting accessories. The two desk chairs in dark blue and ochre add fun and a touch of colour. The inclusion of a sofa bed in the room allows the room to be converted into a spare guest room.
The master bedroom is dipped in an array of turquoise and blue whilst the guest bedroom is a calm purple and pearl oasis. Both feature luxurious super king size beds with tall headboards and dark wood bedside cabinets and dressing tables. The overall result is a wonderfully calm yet striking design. Maisha Design’s favourite aspect of the project has to be the open plan living room where they created a moody atmosphere using copper and indigo tones and atmospheric lighting.
The beauty of this design is that it is a natural pairing of materials and colours, each element is complemented by the other and enriched as a result. The clients’ openness to rich colours and fabrics combined with dark woods and metals allowed the designers to create an apartment full of character and edge. The vision for this design was to create a space where the clients could enjoy and entertain in the design capital of the world. A flat that overlooks the famous Tower Bridge and is situated in the famous Butlers Wharf building a converted warehouse. The design had to complement the stunning central location and elements of the warehouse character such as exposed brick walls visible throughout the flat.
