This project, an apartment based in Hong Kong shares its name with an affluent district in West London, England. This affluence is evident in the luxury materials used within this apartment. The property pays homage to a nostalgic way of living in a contemporary setting. The Kensington apartment presents luxury in a combination of continental European and eastern American traditions.
Structured as a series of delicately laid out rooms, the apartment is filled with intricate details: timber wall panels intersected with polished brass display cases; crafted millwork in living and dining room cornices; walnut panelling and ceiling in games room & powder room; and bespoke mirrors and marble vanity counters in the bathrooms. The deep, darker colours that the designers have used highlight the connection between traditional American design, with the occasional pop of colour accentuating the European theme. The luxuriousness of this apartment is emphasised by the lighting scheme of this property which contrasts perfectly with the dark walnut panelling.
Together with carefully curated furniture and custom soft furnishings – including a feature rug with Middle Eastern-inspired motifs overlaid on a fading monogram pattern – the Kensington apartment pays homage to a nostalgic way of living in a contemporary setting. via architecture are a studio based in Hong Kong made up of architects, interior designers, lighting designers, landscape designers and graphic designers.
