Cool terraces white rendered and travertine stone cladding facades with horizontal expression define the street view of this contemporary villa. The private domain opens up to a lush landscape pool deck with large format sliding windows at ground and first floor level. The buildings horizontal expression is again emphasized this time with the horizontal balconies and overhangs. Vertical louvers protect the most sensitive areas of bedrooms from afternoon sun.
Capping the composition is a roof top terrace that offers views and has a minimal white pergola structure. The clients, a young married couple with two children wanted a friendly, open concept house that would allow them to entertain anything from dinner parties to sports viewing. The design strategy was to open up the common areas so that everyone could more easily be connected. All the daytime functions are united within one single volume of the ground floor with a common empty space created by the courtyard and the strip of glazing under the levitating volume of the upper floor with bedrooms.
Large overhanging canopies and pergolas invite dappled light into the courtyards and terraces, while diluting the strength of the midday sun inside. The rooftop is accessed by an automatic glass roof on top of staircase. The lounge on the roof deck opens up to views of Burj Al Arab. Each space is typically just one room wide, enabling it to enjoy daylight from two, sometimes three directions. The front entrance opens onto a large living-dining-room space and a kitchen beyond. A stair, lined with travertine stone, leads up to the upper floor with four ensuites, one master bedroom and a spacious family room that overlooks the garden below.
