design et al are delighted to announce that Harrods Interiors has been shortlisted for Living Space – UK Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.
Primarily a family holiday home, the Harrods Interiors design team were asked to work with the building’s unique architectural features, such as curved walls and fluid spaces to increase the apartment’s functionality and storage, whilst injecting the space with the comforts of a home in an initially generic new build development. A 2-bedroom apartment with dining & living, the aesthetics and spaces were developed around the client’s love of natural finishes, leathers, earthy tones and coffee.
Battersea is one of London’s most thriving and trendy areas with beautiful houses, green spaces, shopping amenities, cafes & restaurants and culture, as well as its proximity to central London. Situated on the banks of the River Thames, Lombard Wharf is a distinct and striking new 26 storey development. The general brief for this project centralised around creating a warm family home, providing spatial limitation solutions and conveying the client’s personality and interests into an initially generic space.
Highlighting the property’s unique features, such as the building’s irregular shape and the enviable views of the Thames River, the design’s emphasis was placed on finding opportunities for innovative structures. Tapping into the client’s personal tastes and interests: leathers, natural finishes, coffee and nature, as well as the building’s unique shape, the design scheme manifests as a selection of fluid shapes and tactile finishes. The master bedroom is designed with luxurious comfort in mind with an array of cool neutrals and rich textures, whilst the second bedroom, designed for a young son, includes playful blues and a distinct blue-green gradient feature wall.
A highlight of this scheme is the inclusion of a bespoke fireplace in a prominent pillar within the apartment’s structure. Using the lines of the building, a curved fireplace accessible from both the dining and living spaces was designed into the pillar. A unique design solution that provides both stylistic benefit and comfort, whilst resolving the client’s dislike for the permanent pillar feature.
The finished design presents city living at its finest, tackling common problems around spatial limitations with design solutions such as a hidden storage compartment hidden behind a bespoke bookcase. All the benefits and none of the drawbacks, the designers at Harrods Interiors strived to create a version of the client’s family home with a backdrop of central London.
