Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)
I originally trained in Fashion and Textile Design, however when I entered the real world I hated every minute of the industry. From here I worked in finance for a couple of years until I decided enough was enough and that I had to follow my passion for Interiors so went back to school in 2009. Since then I have worked for Design studios in London and North America and have been running Bhavin Taylor Design for the last 5 years.
How would you describe your personal design style?
Full of colour, pattern and personality.
Where does your design inspiration come from?
For me design inspiration can come from anywhere, but I do like bold colourful design which I always think comes from my Indian routes.
In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
I feel that people are finally embracing colour and being bolder with it, which is great. My real hope is that the grey phase passes and never comes back, that with Magnolia!
Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2019 and beyond.
The environment
Colour
Pattern
Sustainability
Durability
If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
Always trust your gut as it knows best! And don’t feel you have to impress anyone, it’s your home so always design a scheme that fits you.
How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
Being shortlisted or even a winner (hopefully) in The International Design & Architecture Awards is definitely important to any business’s journey as your talent is being recognised and can be seen and noticed by other industry partners and clients.
What projects are you currently working on?
A Dental practice and a private residence.
What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
To continue with the growth of Bhavin Taylor Design and to make a start on 2 potential paths that I have been considering for a while, which I will not be sharing the details on right now. Just watch this space is all I can say…
