design et al are delighted to announce that Lonni Paul Design has been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Americas Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.
Featured in Architectural Digest and awarded AD’s Top 6 Celebrity Homes for 2018, this casual vacation home on Lake Couer D’Alene at Gozzer Ranch for celebrities Giuliana & Bill Rancic is a home away from home and a respite from their busy lifestyles. The clients wanted a place to enjoy their summers and spend uninterrupted time with family and friends.
This previously constructed cabin was dark, red and dated. Lonni Paul and her team sanded down and stained all the beams and windows to a rich brown tone and deepened the colour of the floors. All the furniture in the home was custom-made and covered in performance fabrics so the family can relax knowing that no room in the home is off limits to kids or company.
Lonni Paul Design remodelled the master bathroom, kitchen, beams, windows, all lighting, and the entire colour palette of the home inside and out. The floorplan is wide open with the living, kitchen and dining room all in one large space that opens up with glass folding doors to reveal the incredible Idaho mountains and view of Lake Couer D’Alene.
The designers completely blew out the back of the house and changed the small windows to large doors that can completely open for an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. There is a living room, dining room and BBQ area on the new back deck as well as a firepit for roasting marshmallows down on the lawn. Keeping a natural colour palette and using natural wood for the floors and windows gives the feeling of nature being inside the home. When the back is opened up the transition from inside to outside is seamless.
The custom antler chandelier was made using the seasonally sloughed deer antlers found in the forest. The trunk wall to the side of the fireplace was done as a DIY project by Lonni, Giuliana and Bill. They sanded each exposed end and stacked them tightly to the ceiling in a custom steel encasement. The neon sign above the built-in bar is a toast, translated from Italian it means “100 years” and is a nod to Giuliana’s Italian heritage.
Lonni Paul believes that the finished project gives the family everything they wanted. A casual space that allows for the ultimate indoor/outdoor lifestyle for a family with children. As Bill says, “when you walk in, this house wraps its arms around you”.
