design et al are delighted to announce that Accouter Design have been shortlisted for Luxury Residence – London Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.
As one of London’s most desirable residential addresses, the Chelsea Waterfront development is located a short walk from Imperial Wharf Station and Lots Road. Being on the doorstop of the Kings Road, residents of this postcode are at the heart of all the finest cultural amenities that London has to offer. The redevelopment of 434 apartments set over 11.3 acres meant that the show home needed to be something special. First impressions are everything and this is something that the client stressed in their brief. The developer, Hutchinson, stated that walking into the entrance hall was the seven second window to impact a potential buyer’s admiration. It needed to make an impression and unveil the opulence of the apartment.
Together with the client, it was envisioned that the prospective occupants of Chelsea Waterfront would be well travelled, owning a number of properties overseas and appreciative of interiors that held a story with carefully curated pieces. Spanning an impressive 2,800sq. ft, another criteria of the clients brief was to transform the vast spaces into grand but intimate rooms. The reception room, with wall to wall windows boasting panoramas of the River Thames, was highlighted as a concern with regard to feeling cold and stark on entering. With this in mind, different pockets of warm entertainment and relaxation spaces were to be created. They would need to complement each other as a whole room, whilst having their own unique function.
Accouter Design’s favourite aspect of the Chelsea Waterfront project was the dining room. Sectioning the space of the reception area is a grand glass dining table with a dramatic emerald leather wrapped base. The transparency of the table top was chosen so as not to distract from the panoramic views of the River Thames but reflect and mimic the water. The theme of water is shown throughout the scheme, reflected in tones, textures, and shapes. Another key feature that fulfils this theme is the Möbius Love Seat. After researching symbols and ideas about water, the designers decided to explore the concept of the Möbius, a non-orientable strip that has one edge and one side to symbolise eternity. Upholstered in a sumptuous cobalt blue velvet, the bespoke love seat is purposely positioned to utilise the prime viewing position of the River Thames.
The Accouter Design Studio designed, developed, and created a new identity to the classic show home familiar to the area. In the entrance hall, Accouter Design utilised rich, dark colours, distressed blue hues and soupçon of gold to create an atmospheric arrival that exposes the perspective buyers to the luxury carried through to the rest of the apartment. Although the identity of the show home is still that of sophisticated luxe riverside living, they delved into the history of Chelsea, utilising the abundant auction houses as well as drawing on the concept of water to develop a rich, to complete an opulent scheme that had a strong personality, appealing to both domestic and international buyers. A sense of eclectic style using a mix of statement bespoke pieces made by British artisans stood alongside local antiques to create a space that is comfortable, tailored, and aspirational for the super prime buyer.
