The site is a mixed-use apartment building situated in the famous, philosophical neighbourhood in Taipei city, adjacent to the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) where school teachers are educated. This area is not only home for many scholars but also home to many independent bookstores, galleries give special something to this area. Inspired by its surroundings, the aim was to blur the physical boundary and introduce cultural and poetic atmosphere into common spaces. From the outside arcade to the main entrance into reception, there are sections of big wooden panels filled with reoccurring sections of books.
A translucent divider creates bookshelves to separate the lobby to the semi-private elevator hall and the mail room. The mirror finished stainless steel mail boxes in the mail room, titanium ceiling plates in the elevator hall and the black copper-free at the fitness/yoga area, not only widened the space but blur the physical boundary limits. The design works so well due to it being inspired by its surroundings, Aesthetic of Space Design Co Ltd tried to blur the physical boundaries and introduce a cultural and poetic atmosphere into everyday spaces; such as a lobby in an apartment building.
The design integrates into the wider environment as the apartment building is more than just a building but also a boundless culture-sharing area that creates a community through books and artwork displays forming a neighbourhood feel. The high ceiling lobby is surrounded by book shelves that serve as a library, to allow occupants and visitors to pick up something to read or even host a community book club event. Aesthetic of Space Design Co Ltd believes that they can break through the limitations of indifferent urban humanity and space and create different life values with good design.
