Alexander James Interiors will compete for the Residential £2.5-5 million Award at the International Design and Architecture Awards 2013 with a beautiful Surrey property. Burford House is a newly built six bedroom modern home designed and furnished for family living.

The objective was to design and implement a complete solution for turn key family living. The client required a sophisticated and elegant scheme reminiscent of London grandeur, whilst offering appeal to each generation of the family group.

Burford House carries luxurious fabrics and glossy furniture, which creates a contemporary yet opulent feel to the drawing room for formal entertaining. This is in contrast to the industrial and musical themes that inspired the children’s games room, thereby providing spaces for everybody’s enjoyment.

To create character in this spacious modern house, feature wallpapers and custom modern artwork were applied to each room. This approach added focal points and warmth within the grand entrance and landings, which could have been a cold and uninviting. Extensive specification of bespoke pieces grants each space individuality.

The children’s bedrooms show real personality and fun, with feminine and masculine touches from infusions of fuchsia on the soft white palette and Trompe L’oeil galvanised steel wallpaper.

The challenging master suite was given depth by the use of an eglomised mirror four poster bedstead. Careful use of matching palettes and warm tones create a perception of space without having to compromise on the scale of the furnishings.
