. Tell us a little about your background in design  I DEVELOPED MY INTEREST IN INTERIOR DESIGN DURING MY FIRST ROLE AS AN ASSISTANT TO MICHAEL SUMNER, A LEADING BRITISH ARCHITECT AND INTERIOR DESIGNER IN THE 80S AND 90S. I WENT ON TO STUDY FORMERLY AT KLC AND FREELANCED WHILE RAISING MY TWO CHILDREN UNTIL 2012 WHEN I TOOK THE PLUNGE AND SET UP MY OWN RESIDENTIAL INTERIOR DESIGN PRACTICE DEFINITIVE INTERIOR DESIGN.

. How would you describe your personal interior design style? MODERN GLAMOUR

. Where does your design inspiration come from? I AM ALWAYS INSPIRED & LED BY MY CLIENT’S PERSONAL STYLE & COLOUR PREFERENCES & THEIR ARTWORK WHEN DEVELOPING CONCEPTS FOR OTHER’S, I TAKE TIME TO GET TO KNOW THEM BEFORE DEVELOPING DESIGN CONCEPTS THAT REFLECT THEIR INDIVIDUAL PERSONALITIES. ON A MORE PERSONAL NOTE, I AM MAGNETISED AND INSPIRED BY NATURAL COLOURS IN THE ENVIRONMENT, WEATHERED MATERIALS, TIMBER, METAL, DOWN TO THE IRRIDESCENT COLOURS ON THE WINGS OF BUTTERFLIES AND MOTHS.

. In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense? DEVELOPMENT OF THE EFFICIENCY AND AFFORDABILITY OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE HOME AND A REVIVAL OF PERIOD DETAILS AS A MODERN APPLICATION IS AN EXCITING OUTLOOK.

. Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2015 and beyond. I DON’T FOLLOW THEMES, MY CONCEPTS ARE DERIVED ORGANICALLY FROM IN-DEPTH CLIENT CONSULTATIONS TO DETERMINE THEIR PERSONALITIES AND CONSIDERATION FOR THE BUILDING’S MATERIAL, SPACE AND LIGHT. BUT CURRENTLY, I’M MOVING AWAY FROM CLEAN LINES AND INTO DETAILS, E.G. GOLD TAPS AND DROP HANDLES, BOLD COLOUR, LARGE SCALE STATEMENT PIECES, BESPOKE FURNITURE DESIGN AND PANELLING AS WALL COVERING.

. If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to interior design schemes, what would it be? CAREFULLY CONSIDER THE LIGHTING PLAN – LIGHTING ESSENTIALLY HIGHLIGHTS KEY ELEMENTS AND FEATURES AND CREATES THE PERFECT AMBIENCE IN WHICH TO EITHER KICK BACK AND RELAX AT THE END OF A HARD DAY, OR ENTERTAIN GUESTS.

. How important are The International Design and Architecture Awards as recognition of talent and achievement? IN AN INCREDIBLY COMPETITIVE INDUSTRY, BEING SHORTLISTED ALONE HAS GIVEN ME AN ENORMOUS SENSE OF PRIDE IN MY CREATIVITY AND HARD WORK.

. What projects are you currently working on? A SITTING ROOM, STUDY AND MASTER BEDROOM IN BUTLER’S WHARF AND THE REFURBISHMENT OF A DOCKLANDS PENTHOUSE APARTMENT.

. What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months? TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT MORE CONCEPTS FOR BESPOKE FURNITURE DESIGNS AND TO CONTINUE TO CREATE AND DELIVER CLIENT’S ASPIRATIONS FOR INVITING AND INSPIRING LIVING SPACES.
