design et al are delighted to announce that Anna Carin Design have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Asia Pacific Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.
Anna Carin Design kept the bones of a quaint cottage in the heart of Woollahra, Sydney and created an open-plan, functional and beautiful interior to complement the home owner’s requirements. The brief was to maximise the spatial layout of an existing three-bedroom cottage in Woollahra, Sydney. The clients main goal was to open up the space to accommodate a large, functional kitchen including ample storage. A private sanctuary for them to retreat to was also essential.
The ceiling at the front of the house was removed, exposing the trusses and bringing an abundance of natural light. Removing the existing kitchen opened the space dramatically and the addition of some clever joinery solved storage issues. The joinery along the wall adjacent to the kitchen conceals the laundry, fridge, cleaning cupboard and air conditioning. Effective use of storage space allowed the layout of the family lounge and dining area to be open plan. The top floor was re-configured to create a parent’s retreat including a large bedroom and generous en-suite.
Anna Carin Design worked within the existing foot print of the house. They were careful to ensure the materials palette was sensitive to the style of homes in the surrounding Woollahra neighbourhood. Carrara marble, European Oak Tongue and Groove floor boards and ceiling boards were chosen to complement the existing structure.
