design et al are are delighted to announce that Ara Design International  have been shortlisted for Lobby/public area – Global Award in The International Hotel & Property Awards 2019

Ara Design International were appointed as designers for the new look Lobby at the Hyatt Andaz Hotel, adjacent to Liverpool Street Station in the centre of East London. Being the first Andaz branded property in the Hyatt portfolio, this hotel is very dear to the Operator’s heart and great care and attention to all parts of the design was utmost during the whole of the design and construction process.

In the centre of Shoreditch, the Andaz sits adjacent to the buzz of one of London’s largest and best loved railway stations and amongst some of the capital’s most creative, bohemian and constantly changing areas. Inspiration was taken from its location amongst such artistic influences as well as the railway station itself. The thread of the design story is a Victorian train journey through contemporary East London. Ara design loved the disparity between the two periods in time, the formalness of the Victorian juxtaposed with the contemporary East London scene whether it be in the form of art, crafts, writing food and drink.

The new space is eccentric, eclectic, merging and blending graffiti with Victoriana and nature. Ara’s design takes us on a journey through time reflecting a fun and refreshed visual zeitgeist of Victorian and contemporary periods, creating a new “wow” look. The stunning graffiti artwork splashed across the newly panelled wall. It creates a whole new experience for the guest as it tells a story about the area in which the Hotel is located. it becomes a hub for exploring the area and creates the desire to find out more about the past. The design helps the building integrate better than in its previous modern guise as it relates to the railway station next door which in its heyday was a major part of the property as guests could access the platforms directly from the Hotel itself.

The new Lobby has given some character back to not only the Hotel, but to the area as a whole as it is seen as a hub for locals who can pop in for a drink, meet and listen to music by the resident DJ.
