Elicyon have been shortlisted for City Space (Apartment/Penthouse) Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2020.

Elicyon were enlisted for the interior design of this Chelsea Barracks three-bedroom lateral apartment which benefits from dual aspect windows overlooking Mulberry Square. It was essential that the timeless base-build was complemented by the fresh interior design.

The design brief for the 2523 sq. ft. apartment was to create a contemporary home which builds on the layers of history and celebrates the heritage of Chelsea barracks. The palette featured eclectic furnishings with tactile materials and lush greenery; the reception area is fresh, serene and speckled with quirky accessories; the dining room and kitchen area are warm, welcoming and feature rustic accents; and the master bedroom is bright, uplifting and features tactile textiles.

Elicyon’s favourite aspects of this project include the antiques used in a contemporary setting. Fun face vases from Guinevere Antiques add a playful element whilst adding to the bohemian vibe in the apartment, including the feature wallpaper which was used in the Master Bedroom by ‘Drop it Modern’. Many specialists’ skills were required for this project, such as the Sculpture by Peter Hayes – ‘Lady’ featured in the reception area and in the Kitchen the bar stools by George Smith, are very sculptural and unique.

The design works so well due to the eclectic mix of bespoke and artisan pieces blended with the luxurious materiality, all in calming tones, which creates a serene space with visual interest. The design perfectly integrates into its wider environment, with the many artworks and handmade ceramics incorporated to specifically relate to the history of artists in Chelsea.
