Trentini Design have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme Asia Pacific Award in the International Design and Architecture Awards 2020.
The brief was to make sense of a long and narrow space, to maximise appreciation for the views, to connect the indoors to the outdoors in a more cohesive way and to allow the family to relax in every room in the home. The opportunity for built-in joinery presented itself throughout the home to achieve simplicity and allow to ample breathing space. Furniture choices are restrained through selection yet playful in nature to emphasise the energy of the family who lives here. Moments are provided throughout each of the spaces for sitting and reading, contemplation or conversation and was a key highlight of the brief provided by the family.
The custom joinery used throughout was designed to create a harmonious flow through the narrow space. From hidden electronics to built-in banquette seating the joinery allows the spaces to connect easily with each other as well as allowing the home owner to fully embrace the outdoors. Building in opportunities for quiet reflective moments are enhanced through the beautifully hand-crafted light fittings used throughout.
The design works so well for the homeowners because this space was previously used to walk through and access the bedrooms and bathroom. There was no expression, no character and given the fact that the room is long and narrow it was hard for the owners to understand how they could create an area that they wanted to be in. This room is now the most used space that fits the entire family for a multitude of activities.
The entire design was focused on connecting the interior with the exterior. Given the long and narrow space, the owners had previously faced the sofa and everything else within the rooms away from the exterior. It was my task to refocus the rooms and provide connection between the interior and exterior.
