Trentini Design have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Global Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2020.
A 1960’s family home situated in the leafy suburb of Mawson, the Baron Cottage brief was to completely modernise the interior, maximise the existing footprint, improve storage and accommodate for modern family life. A warm, calm and inviting space was created through clever spatial planning, reconfiguration of the existing shared spaces to accommodate modern family life, incorporating a discreet butlers pantry and laundry as well as an abundance of storage.
Building within the existing footprint, the Baron Cottage underwent a complete reconfiguration of bathrooms, laundry, kitchen and living areas to open up the interior and allow natural light to flood every space. Improved connection from indoors to outdoors provided opportunities to expand the living space available to the owners. Material selection was critical to enhance the natural light and provide visual warmth in a cold climate area. The restrained and muted palette enhances the clients’ desire for a harmonious and family friendly home and allows breathing space for the three-sided fireplace to sit comfortably in its environment.
The complete reconfiguration of the main living areas including the kitchen, dining and living spaces improves the functionality for modern family life. By modernising and opening up the spaces allows an abundance of natural light to permeate the spaces. The three sided fire place is perfectly positioned central to the entire home and is the real show stopper of the entire design. The design works so well for the homeowners providing better connection between the spaces, better line of sight and a flow to the spaces that makes sense in a modern context.
The entire design was focused on connecting key living areas to provide a better flow through the home and to the exterior living spaces. The existing footprint of the home was retained to ensure that the expansive land surrounding the home could be maintained and enjoyed. Homes in this location are generally expanded so it was lovely to work with clients who understood the value of retaining the expansive green areas for their family health and well being.
