Congratulations to Bernard Interiors shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Europe Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2018

design et al are delighted to announce that Bernard Interiors have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Europe Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.

Bernard Interiors was commissioned to design and project manage the redevelopment of a luxury second home in Marbella for a private client. The primary focus of the brief was to create a warm and comfortable family residence with a contemporary European edge. Light and colour play an important role in the lives of the clients. They wanted to create a calming environment that encouraged relaxation, family downtime as well as family and social gatherings.

The philosophy of the design combined light, luxurious and textured finishes, with subtle injections of colour featuring throughout the scheme. One of the suggestions to promote modern family living was to merge the three key living spaces, by demolishing walls in order to connect the kitchen, main lounge and dining room with the outside terrace. A view to the sea from the kitchen, living & dining was paramount for the client. Each of the four bedrooms feature their own en-suite and dressing room areas which make the house the perfect place for entertaining and hosting family and friends – a key priority for the client.

Being a fast-paced businessperson, Bernard Interiors’ client wanted a workspace that was functional yet did not conflict with the luxurious style of the interior. The designers made clever use of the hall space and created a niche with a neat recessed desk. In the hallway adjacent to the desk is a bespoke brass framed mirror which cleverly conceals the AV equipment. Spending long summers in their second home, Bernard Interiors’ client wanted emphasis made on the outdoor living space, combining technology, comfort, and dining, almost replicating the internal spaces. The terrace features a selection of seating & lounging areas, an outdoor kitchen, TV, with views to the gardens and sea.

The outdoor space is multi-functional and works exceptionally well as an open plan social space for lounging or dining. A combination of comfortable seating creates a cocoon around a bespoke coffee table where family and friends can socialise with drinks or lounge and watch the tv. The tv is concealed in a bespoke kitchen unit, with a motorised lift. The outdoor kitchen also houses a fridge, a freezer, storage for crockery, glassware etc.
