design et al are delighted to announce that Bishop Design have been shortlisted for Restaurant Within A Hotel – Global Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2018.
Located in the Four Seasons Hotel, the brief for Scalini, from leading hospitality group Bulldozer, was to offer a new addition to the Dubai food scene. It was important for Bishop Design to adhere to an established knowledgeable clientele holding a wealth of experience, character and history based upon the original venue created many years previously in London. Throughout the years Scalini has maintained its high-end food offering and welcoming interior to international global celebrities alike. Founded by two brothers in 1960s London it has continued to maintain the high standards of cuisine, experience and offering.
Dubai was to witness a new evolution to this already well-established brand, maintaining its original authenticity, yet appealing to the local and GCC region. It was envisaged to have an innovative refreshing pallet and colour scheme evocative of a southern Italian coastal vibe. This was thoughtfully conceived through the FF&E conception where deep aqua marines seamlessly morph into a candy stripe of orange and white, harmoniously balanced with natural rustic and white washed woods and an authentic terracotta flooring – sumptuously elegant, beautifully edgy yet refined, calming, approachable and ultimately appealing to the end user.
Along with its experiential open kitchen, a key aspect of the venue is the versatile seating options which allow for the perfect al fresco dining destination in the garden and pergola. The outside terrace is an enchanting environment, with lighting and furniture utilized in a way to feel ultimately intimate. A setting to enjoy one’s evening within a harmonious and relaxed atmosphere, or rather the perfect transportation into the captivating dining destination within. Moreover, this area was thoughtfully carved from an obsolete and unwelcoming inherited space into a memorizing and fully functional external realm.
Scalini Dubai offers a refreshed interior dynamic yet adhering to the original DNA of the brand. The interiors are refreshing, clean and contemporary however finely detailed, combining the use of natural inherent materials harmoniously balanced with new innovative solutions without ever comprising its integrity to design nor to its humble beginnings. The delicate use of linen for the upholstery, in addition to the bespoke shelving and panelled walls which are adorned with curated artwork create an atmosphere of pure refined elegance and comfort, adding to the venue’s approachable character. The venue itself is versatile in its spatiality allowing for multiple dining scenarios to be undertaken, from private and semi-private through to shared areas.
