Wanting the space to be an extension of her energy and entrepreneurial spirit, Designsmith joined the project to create interiors for The Bowl One that were contemporary yet enduring, with modern details for an edge. The Bowl One restaurant in Dubai International Finance Centre offers healthy food from organic produce and sustainable processes, and it is this that formed the seed for the design concept, with timeless design and local artists.
Most of the materials used are natural finishes in subdued colour palates, tying together the organic style of both the food and design, and allowing the wall graphics by Sijin Gopinathan, a talented award winning artist based in Dubai, and decorative lighting to stand out and give the place its ‘peppy’ vibe. All the seating was custom made tailored for the Bowl One which is unique yet comfortable, and to leverage the impact of social media and embed something truly characteristic of the client’s persona, the designers incorporated circular swing seating as an ‘Instagram nook’ which, along with the graphics and the lighting in the background, truly captures the culinary aesthetic and design ideology of the restaurant. Custom steel finished counter spaces were also designed and produced in-house to complement the rustic nature of the space. One of the central design features that Designsmith developed was the hanging system above the counter with a halo-like glow, to double as storage for the client’s homegrown pickling and margination process, helping the jars settle and give that fresh organic edge to the design.
The design is dominated by clean lines intercepted with subtle curves to guide the circulation of the space. The barrier between the outdoor and indoor seating is blurred by the implementation of bi-fold doors, creating an inviting atmosphere and the capability of extending the dining space to accommodate larger groups and occasions if needed. With the location of The Bowl One being recognized as the leading financial centre in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region, this restaurant provides the DIFC with the perfect place to dine in and gather with their connections.Al Halabi worked closely with the designers to develop the space planning and details for the kitchen.
