A family country retreat set amidst acres of lush land on the outskirts of Delhi. This family oasis consisting of 5 grand ensuite bedrooms, cinema room, 2 kitchens and ample dining / living spaces. A separate cottage with gym and pool, all nestled in one of the most prestigious living areas in India.
Casa Forma’s design brief was to convert a crumbling neglected farmhouse in Delhi into a modern family home, a home not only to be functional for a young family’s needs but a second home to be used for renewal and relaxation, a retreat. The original features and character of the house were to be kept; this was of upmost importance to the family whose roots come from nearby towns.
The vast amount of work started on constructing a new roof and internal wood beams that had slowly decayed over the years from termites. The foundations of the house had to be rectified and new plumbing, ceilings and floors were essential part of the project. Requests for the interiors were to reflect elements of traditional Indian touches mixed with Western style luxury, furniture and fittings were sourced locally and far abroad from renowned suppliers. Custom joinery was made by wood artisans with attention to detail in every form.
The acres of land were carefully landscaped and manicured with a new separate cottage erected which overlooks the infinity pool. Verandas wrap around the perimeter of the house with local flag stone miraculously laid. Reconfiguring the layout of the house to suit the family’s needs were an essential part of the project, the entrance foyer needed to impress and at the same time be functional as it serves to link the main wings of the house and its sleeping quarters.
A sweeping staircase sets the tone with marble inlays on the floor. Sal wood was used to clad walls and areas of the ceilings which creates a dramatic feel, a Baccarat crystal chandelier suspended from the double height space contrasts harmoniously with its surroundings. The design of the furniture and joinery arrangement works perfectly creating fluidity to the house, this was key, practicality yet luxurious enough to entertain with ample seating and dining.
