Congratulations to Clare Gaskin Interiors who have been shortlisted for Bathroom Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2019

design et al are delighted to announce that Clare Gaskin Interiors have been shortlisted for Bathroom Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.

Clare Gaskin Interiors was involved in every aspect of the interior design of a tired but beautiful listed Georgian townhouse on a square in Islington, this included the creation of the luxurious Master Ensuite.

The clients required a separate bath and shower as well as double vanity (in addition to a toilet), these needs could not be met by the existing Shower Room (which was thus renovated to become a smart Dressing Room) and the previous Dressing Room became the enlarged Master Ensuite. Clare Gaskin Interiors worked with West One Bathrooms on several layouts that would fulfil the clients practical and aesthetic requirements.

The final design concept evolved from the client’s recollection of a beautiful bathroom in a hotel on the Amalfi Coast. Central to this memory was the ‘white with touches of green’, ‘marble’ and ‘gold brassware’ – the space had felt light and classical but also had a touch of the grand and a splash of drama. The clients did not want a direct replication of the bathroom more a modern interpretation of the scheme.

The natural light in the bathroom, through a large window, was to be enhanced and Clare Gaskin Interiors were encouraged to keep the bathroom usage flexible. By day, the space is a functional bathroom with very good lighting and plenty of clever storage and by night, a softer, more romantically lit space to relax in at the end of the day, unwinding in sanctuary with a glass of wine in the bath.

The bathroom is very much part of the Master Suite and thus a connection with the bedroom was important, and whilst the colour schemes were always to be different there was to be a flow in classical style. Views from each room were carefully considered and use of colours and materials balanced. The overall scheme reflects an elegant and yet fun family home within a period property.
