The clients wanted to create an exotic and island-style oasis in a coastal French village. The original house was entirely renovated and extended to embrace an eclectic ethnic mix blending colonial, Moroccan, Indian and Greek influences. Significant structural changes and enlargements were implemented to create a well flowing and intimate house of 260m2. The kitchen was doubled, an impressive entrance portico and entrance hall was newly created. The master suite was separated from the common areas with many changes of walls, windows and doors. The garage was entirely redeveloped into a lower ground floor for the children. An outdoor terrace was converted into a conservatory dining room thus affording a more spacious living room.
Materials, surfaces, textures, colours, fabrics were carefully sourced to create an authentic, lived-in, relaxed, cosy, comfortable, warm and aged atmosphere. Traditional Moroccan Tadelakt was applied in the master bathroom which features a beautiful Arabic arched shower and a bespoke display cabinet for the client’s bikini collection. Floors and walls throughout the main house are white with dark wood accents in the beams. Floors are a painted concrete and walls are hand plastered to give the artisan feeling of exotic houses. Furniture is a diverse mix of antique, reclaimed and bespoke commissions sourced from mostly exotic countries. The designer helped the clients to build a beautiful art collection of Arabic and exotic oil paintings and prints as well as an impressive collection of 18th and 19th century Imari porcelain which is displayed in the dining and living rooms.
Moreover, the clients wanted to create many different indoor and outdoor spaces for family and guests to enjoy privacy as well spacious common areas to eat, play and relax together. On the property a second house was built of 210m2 for guests and staff as well as a pool and pool house for outdoor entertaining and cooking. The house looks and feels cosy, aged and settled. Every detail is unique and original and it feels like a collection of treasures built over a lifetime.
