design et al are delighted to announce that Blainey North & Associates have been shortlisted for Table Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017.
The Chasm table has been inspired by the city. “The notion of mapping, of tracing human movement through a city was the starting point for me. Cities are hard, with a multiplicity of levels and differing scales, their repetitive nature generating an edgy beauty. Human bodies on the other hand are soft and the movements are random creating these idiosyncratic trails within the urban landscape’, says North.
The table is mesmeric inside and out with its highly polished, facetted form taking on external reflections. A glass top renders the inward view equally as compelling. The table seeks to make the viewer look in to see a myriad of staggered images of both yourself and the outside world. This effect, recreates a human’s movement through an urban context and celebrates the beauty of this convergence.
The Chasm Coffee table sits lightly on the ground, the exterior stepped form creating refracted views of the floor covering underneath. The piece has been hand made in stainless steel, with every facet cut, mitred and welded together. “The city is my happy place,’ says North, ‘strangely it is where I feel most calm and most inspired by what I see and experience and that is what has generated these ideas that all relate back, in one way or another, to the Man and the Machine”. This piece is from the new Blainey North Collection to be launched in London in October 2017.
