design et al are delighted to announce that Chantel Elshout Design Consultancy have been shortlisted for a Kitchen over £50,000 Award in The International Design And Architecture Awards 2016
Chantel Elshout Design Consultancy were instructed to design a functional open plan kitchen for a large family house built by a local developer. The kitchen needed to appeal to a wide selection of potential buyers and integrate with the informal living area. The kitchen is equipped with professional appliances which could cater for large social events whilst remaining practical for everyday living.
The island is equipped with hobs, preparation sink and a seating area facing the spectacular tiered garden. Hand-blown glass pendant lights & solid wood breakfast bar soften the look and link area to the living space. The units are finished in Basalt Grey & White Satin Lacquer creating a striking contrast against the soft, off white walls. The Silestone composite worktop has a beautiful natural texture and is extremely hard wearing. Finally, the glass splash back is kept neutral and adds another subtle layer of reflection against the matt finish of the units.
Free reign was given in terms of the colour palette and the layout. The different textures in the room make the space feel warm and inviting and stop the space feeling cold and clinical like so many modern kitchens can be. The space in which the team had to work was ample, this meant that the island could become the centrepiece of the room whilst allowing for thoroughfare all around keeping the space functional and elegant.
