On Ibiza’s South side is Es Vive, a whitewashed Art Deco inspired 50-bedroom hotel. Es Vive is a true landmark of the White Isle. It is legendary for its style, level of service and fabulous pool parties. Originally built as a house in 1939/40 it is now one of the very few listed buildings on the Island. The owners of Es Vive were keen to offer their guests an experience that was more befitting to the hotels Art Deco roots and commissioned Cochrane Design to re design the entire interior.Very little of the previous interior remained therefore needing a complete overhaul. It was important to the client to mix style and luxury whilst still showing elements of traditional Ibizan culture. Cochrane Design pursued a far more Art Deco style in this project to acknowledge the heritage of the building. Whilst they wanted to create a punchy and modern design, they also brought a feeling of 1930’s grandeur through the use of dark woods, rich colour and plush fabrics. Sean Cochrane, creative director at Cochrane Design, has a reputation for balancing contemporary details with classic style. The hotel is one of the most unique on the island – with its Ibizan style and symmetrical white washed exterior. It was important to create a sense of distinct quirkiness that lived up to the ‘Experience’ name. Cochrane combined the Deco heritage with the nautical twists and turns of a 1930’s cruise ship to create a completely new concept for Ibiza. The Bar inherited its name through its already renowned reputation on the island. It was imperative that the designers enhanced and developed this status and ‘experience’, allowing new and returning clientele to be stunned, continuing this impressive legacy.Es Vive’s clients are mainly a mix of fashion folk, celebrities, designers and club lands high fliers, hence the owners wanted to refurbish the hotel in a way which would satisfy lots of different people and tastes. The Hotel’s culture was very much entwined into the design schemes. Cochrane complemented the design by using multiple layers of lighting to help bring each space and area alive over the varying moods of the day and night. Different areas were accentuated by highlighting exciting features such as the bar frame and booth areas. The most important element of the project is the intricate and beautiful detailing which has been implemented into the interior. The lights and furniture were designed in-house by Cochrane Design, which enabled subtle integration of Ibiza’s eccentric twists and turns. Each element on every level was considered. Secluded booths give a VIP option to the bar, allowing visitors to have the possibility of privacy and exclusivity. The designers used luxurious rich fabrics and colours mixed with low atmospheric lighting to create the required underground club sensation. The cohesive design, layout and seamless blend of styles is key in making the hotel’s aesthetic a success. The most important elements of the design are shown in the beautiful and unique Experience Bar. The Experience Bar is a chic and intimate space featuring comfortable low hung furniture, sassy and suave coloured booth areas, ambient layered lighting and eclectic artwork adorning the walls. The client wanted a space that provided an exclusive underground experience that would not be out of place in New York, Tokyo, London or Paris. Using subtle finishes to the colours of fabrics allowed us to be brave in our choices, complementing the tingle of madness you feel when entering ‘The Experience’.
