design et al are delighted to announce DHD Architecture + Interior Design have been successfully shortlisted for the Hotel Under 200 Rooms Award in The Americas and Caribbean Category at this year’s International Hotel & Property Awards.
This unique, contemporary hotel in the heart of New York City saw the DHD design team convert a 5-story manufacturing building into a full service loft style hotel. This eclectic accommodation allows visitors to experience authentic New York “loft style” living. The design brief required efficient layouts to achieve the density or rooms whilst looking to avoid a generic corridor and circulation system.
The design breaks down the space, taking advantage of an unusual structural alignment, in a way which creates repetitive room modules and types, but resulted in a randomly staggered corridor. The design alludes to the haphazard way that loft buildings were often divided up and inhabited. The hotel design gives an edgy but welcoming ambience throughout and guests are spoilt for choice in terms of the unique art work and furniture which fills the space.
