Congratulations to Diane Berry Kitchens shortlisted for Kitchen Design Over £100,000 Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019

design et al are delighted to announce that Diane Berry Kitchens has been shortlisted for Kitchen Design Over £100,000  Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.

The client wanted a wow kitchen but the colour scheme had to be the same as their last kitchen, Ivory and sandstone Corian, they wanted to have a raised glass bar on steel columns and if we could introduce curves they wold be happy as they had previously been told this was not possible.

A further requirement was a raised glass breakfast bar, which the clients wanted to incorporate as an impressive feature, as opposed to being used every day. The clients wanted a coffee station, reflective of an upmarket Costa, which would be used daily. In addition, the kitchen needed to include various fridges for cans and bottles and for wine and champagne.

The shapes are the key aspect to this design the tall units have a gentle curve and the feature island is curved, with a circular breakfast bar and then a shaped lower glass table. We even had curved electric opening sliding glass doors to continue to soft form theme.

Even though it is glamorous it functions as a working kitchen, with all the necessary appliances – there is even a tall narrow unit for the Dyson behind the TV, every aspect of a functioning kitchen is here but the eye is drawn to the curved and feature lighting.

All the curves were made from formers in the room by joiners and panels veneered in situ. The curved Corian worktop are heated up to the exact temperature and slowly bent around to create this seamless island. The shaped table that protrudes without support from the back of the island and is a feat of engineering as there must be a greater volume inside the island to allow glass to hang like it is supported.

This home has drama in all aspects of the house from huge metal rhino in the basement garage, to wall hung beds with led lighting. The client loves all things dramatic and I hope our confident dramatic kitchen is bold and confident without being overbearing as it has subtle detail and styling too.
