design et al are delighted to announce the shortlist success of Karim Rashid in the Kitchen over £50,000 category of The International Design and Architecture Awards 2015
The kitchen is the heart of the home. With that in mind, the intention of the Karan Kitchen by Rastelli is to take what is often a banal archetype of kitchenware and turn it into an elegant communal experience. The concept revolves around an open pedestal island. The tapered curve of the island invites friends and family to pull up a seat. Both faucet and LED lights retract into the counter, creating a flush surface.
The easy addition of multi‐purpose cutting boards over the sink area creates a solid dining space. The Soft curves are continued along the wall unit. A rounded cutout creates a cooking and prep area. The inset back‐lit mirror is edged by ambient lighting LEDs. Channel opening cabinets hide the refrigerator, oven and pantry storage.
The use of glass, in matt or glossy finish, for doors, as well as the ceramic, helps to make a model which is already original and recognizable ,even more exclusive. The Karan kitchen features a non-porous surface, which makes it easy to clean, and provides extreme resistance to heat and household chemicals. Featuring soft and fluid design, the Karan kitchen concept is designed as a new addition to the modern kitchen range.
