design et al are delighted to announce that KIMA Architecture & Interiors have been shortlisted for Kitchen Design over £50,000 Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017.
This project involved two adjoining Georgian terrace houses, converted into a single property, in residential Kensington, within a walking distance of Harrods. KIMA Architecture & Interiors were tasked with a three-storey basement extension to provide the following accommodation: various reception areas, 5 bedroom suites, cinema, pool, spa and gym, large kitchen with dining area, garden and outdoor entertainment area. The client had purchased two adjoining terraced houses, both in poor condition, one previously used as a garage. The client had a vision of converting these into a well-appointed single family residence.
The client had the following requirements: fully integrated and automated BMS (Building Management System), wellness area and pool, all bedrooms en-suite, parking space and a separate formal and family entertainment areas. The kitchen had to cater for a family of five on a daily basis and guests and events/parties on occasion. The kitchen has a dumb waiter that is connected a ground floor preparation room that in turn serves the ground floor dining room and reception areas. It was important to provide natural light and ventilation (in addition to mechanical ventilation), KIMA Architecture & Interiors achieved this by the installation of a ‘engineer’ skylight in the garden that is both walk-on and open-able.
KIMA Architecture & Interiors favourite aspect of the project is the unusual combination of finishes: cool, function, durable stainless steel paired with ebony veneer. The design works so well because the kitchen is laid out practically with durable finishes, generous storage both dry and cold. There is ample circulation for a number of people to work simultaneously. There is also an in-kitchen dining area seating 10 people.
