design et al are delighted to announce that Robert Angell Design International have been shortlisted for Bar/Club/Lounge Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2016.
Robert Angell and his team were asked to reinvigorate the iconic Blue Bar, which was previously designed by the late David Collins. The team were asked to keep the Bar’s origins but give the space a more modern feel. The amazing interior that has totally been stripped out and only the original Sir Edwin Lutyens panelling that Collins Painted Blue remains. The rest was all newly designed by Robert Angell, but the end result is more contemporary yet retains its iconic style.
Everything was designed uniquely for this project and the attention to detail is truly remarkable, the interior that can only really be appreciated by being in the space. The upholstery for the individually designed chairs and stools was tailor made from dying the yarns to developing a textile that would be totally unique for the upholstery and four bespoke designs were created. This project was all about the details and juxta position of materials to really wow the guest and exceed all expectations.
The stools to the lower tables have leather bases and glass pedestal column, all the furniture is exacting in comfort and style. Not forgetting the new glass pavilion the style of the interior and furniture had to reflect the differing architectural styles and therefore a more mid-century approach was needed to compliment both spaces. All the materials are luxurious and harmonious. The Custom Blue leather floor softens the tone. Onyx bar topped tables are 40mm thick giving a luxury quality of substance and elegance.
