design et al are delighted to announce that Romuald Stefanski have been shortlisted for a Bespoke Cabinetry Award in The International Product Design Awards 2016

The inspiration for this piece was a series of grey days in London which can happen in winter or in summer.

A home furnishing piece that effused personality and added brightness can change any interior regardless of the weather outside. The main body is made using Tricoya, an extremely durable and stable board material. The finish is in reconstituted rasped concrete. At the bottom of the sideboard there is a co chamber with a structural beam to counteract potential sagging as the sideboard is approx. 2.5 m long.

All elevations were constructed with Tricoya and hand shaped. Birch ply random panels are finished in hand polished high gloss lacquer. The handles and legs are made in thermoformed Perspex. The top lined with 4 mm low iron glass. The interior has been lined in a beautiful silver oak. As the start of a compact and modular series we started with this distinctively dynamic storage unit. Fusing aesthetics with function, this is a fearless piece of furniture. The user’s experience would emerge out of a combination of design-consciousness and purpose. The birch ply cabinet doors which have been hand polished in high gloss yellow lacquer are not only incredibly durable and chip sturdy but by their organic nature are very inviting to touch, therefore enhancing the visual experience of this unique and striking piece.
