design et al are delighted to announce that Rosa May Sampaio have been shortlisted for Residential £1-2.5 Million (Project by Value) Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017.

This project is an apartment located in a prime spot of Rio de Janeiro, Arpoador beach, between Ipanema and Copacabana. The property has 900 m² and Rosa May Sampaio completed the interior architecture so that the owner can really appreciate the sea view. The idea was to use black and white even in the veranda to let the blue colour of the sea, and the green trees come into apartment to really make the most of its natural surroundings. The entrance hall was made from Carrara marble with black diamond, with the very old Brazilian sofa from the period of Dona Maria I of Portugal and two modern paintings of Ivan Cascão. The way the property was constructed, the client can view the sea from both the bathroom and bedroom.

A big and comfortable suede sofa and a big square wooden table give the room a relaxed feel, with the addition two antique iron French garden chairs. At the bottom of the home theatre there is a triple photograph of Miguel Rio Branco. In front of these pictures a big projection screen comes down and the client can enjoy a true home cinema experience with friends and family. Rosa May Sampaio also added a fantastic “esfera” armchair to the room from the 1960’s Brazilian designer Ricardo Fasanello. On the other side of the veranda, Rosa May Sampaio completed the dining room which featured black painted walls and dark green marble floors.
