Congratulations to Sheree Stuart Design who have been shortlisted for City Space (Apartment/Penthouse) Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019

design et al are delighted to announce that Sheree Stuart Design have been shortlisted for City Space (Apartment/Penthouse) Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.

The design of this sleek two-storey penthouse was heavily influenced by Sheree Stuarts’ clients love of travel, particularly to Asia, and their growing collection of antiquities and art.  There is a Japanese aesthetic to the penthouse that combines simplicity, modernism and an appreciation of design and quality.  Every aspect of this penthouse is custom, from the lighting, millwork, flooring, furniture and cabinet hardware.   The interior design of Takimiz fits beautifully with the architecture of the penthouse and the fantastic panoramic views of downtown Toronto and Lake Ontario.

Although this penthouse is small it is big on design.  Sheree Stuart Design have utilised all the space available with high-end millwork and clever design details, such as concealed TVs, wine bars and sophisticated lighting systems.  The luxury appliances and bath fixtures aid in providing the client with a northern tranquil retreat. The clean lines, earth tone palette and modern influences of Japanese design reminds the clients of their favourite travel destinations abroad.

This penthouse also benefits from an incredible amount of natural light. Both the south and north walls feature floor-to-ceiling windows.  It was important that the interior lighting be equally amazing. The unique design of this penthouse fits beautifully into the wider environment.  The penthouse has 360 views of downtown Toronto, featuring breath-taking views of the CN Tower and lake.  The open concept living space blends beautifully with the exterior patio and views of the cityscape.

Sheree Stuart Design worked with several millwork teams to complete the interior finishing and cabinetry, and used a custom metal fabricator for the large metal facade on the living room fireplace.  The metal fireplace was a labour of love.  Many hours were spent by the team to perfect the patina of the metal using different formulas. Furniture, lighting and upholstery, such as the Japanese inspired bench, walnut-backed sofa and chandelier are entirely custom by Sheree Stuart Design. Any renovation is not without its challenges.  The main challenges for this renovation were largely due to the fact that walls were unmovable, as most were concrete and load bearing. As such, there were great limitations on the layout for certain rooms.  Sheree Stuart solved this by providing the client with customised storage and living systems that maximised functionality and beauty.
