Weldon recieve further shortlist success in the Flooring category of The International Product Design Awards 2015
In this classical building in Mayfair, Weldon were commissioned to supply and install flooring for 19 rooms. This extensive project, taking over 4 years to complete, features a large selection of flooring disciplines. These include timber boards, parquetry and marquetry inlaid with metals and leather.
A wide variety of timbers were used including steamed oak, teak, sycamore, walnut, mahogany and wenge plus neoprene, marble and brass. Weldon researched and developed special techniques to combine solid metal inlays with beautiful wood to produce enduring and artistic floor designs. The main focus of the project involved several bespoke marquetry borders, which were inspired by the architectural elements and wall coverings of the Arts and Crafts movement. Throughout the house, individual borders remain sympathetic to their surroundings yet shine with originality, grace and innovation. A hand crafted marquetry border from the project is pictured here, with its elegant gothic arch in contrasting timbers of specially selected English white sycamore and rift sawn African wenge. It surrounds decorative parquetry on the upper floors of the house, adding a striking note to a restful and classical room.
