Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)

 

Alexander Wong is an award-winning Architect based in Hong Kong. A post-graduate from Princeton University, he established his own design firm Alexander Wong Architects in 2001. The company specializes in designing Luxury Homes for A-list Clients in the Movie Industry as well as creating Theme-based Cinemas including “Avatar City”, “A Futuristic Eden” and “Carmen Futura”, all garnering international design awards. In 2013 & 2015, Wong has been selected by Architectural Digest China as one of the “100 Top Architecture & Design Talents in China” and also voted “Best Innovative Architect Of The Decade” in 2017. Alexander Wong Architects won the Global Top Award with “World’s Best Interior Design” at the International Property Awards in London in 2016. The company is currently designing hotels, shopping malls, landmark towers in China. His new book “ARCHIPHANTASY” will be launched worldwide this October and available on Amazon.

 How would you describe your personal design style?

Based on Nature, Science and Art but with a twist, Dreamlike & Fantasy, Memorable & Meaningful, Cultural and Asian.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

Any kind of Art, Science, Technology, Films, Books, Materials, Patterns, History, Historical Figures, Astronomy, Astrology, Stories, Fashion, The Sky, Dreams, Youtube, Everything could be an inspiration.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

It’s definitely led by the latest technology including Robotics and AI (Artificial Intelligence), also sustainability within Nature.

 If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?

Be totally original and think deeply about what the design actually means as well as how it will be used.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?

It is important in the sense that it pushes the boundaries of design.

What projects are you currently working on?

One Airport Hotel, One Resort Hotel with the most spectacular sea view, One Steam Punk Shopping Mall, One High-rise Tower, One Giant Exhibition Center, One Futuristic Wedding Hall, just to name a few.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?

To survive and complete most of the projects above.

Book is anything written by Truman Capote except In Cold Blood, Film is Mulholland Drive by David Lynch, Song is Pat Metheny’s “Are You Going With Me?”

Your favourite food and drink?
I don’t like complicated food so I guess fresh vegetables and fresh meat with Chilli Sauce

Your favourite way to spend an afternoon?
Designing or Writing or Swimming
