Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)

I have studied Naval Architecture in the University of Strathclyde and I have been sketching yachts since I was a kid. This passion for yachts pushed me into studying in greater depth what needs to be done in order to build a beautiful but functional yacht.

How would you describe your personal design style?

I like to implement natural elements in my designs. Harmonious curves can be spotted everywhere in the nature. For example, a mountain’s ridge or the shape of the wave crests; these are some elements that inspire me. But, not to forget, a yacht needs to operate efficiently and always fulfil the owner’s requirements. Always avoid to compromise; look for the optimal solution.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

I love the sea and I really enjoy the life on-board a yacht. It is always nicer to visit places with a yacht. Regarding my designs; as I mentioned above, the nature inspires me a lot. Other than that, I really like to discuss with my clients and get to know them better, as it really helps in creating the ideal yacht for them.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

Design will always evolve. New technologies and materials give the eligibility to construct a so-called extreme design. Also, the eco-friendly approach of the marine industry has pushed the engineering boundaries a bit further. Now hybrid propulsion systems have become a normal even in the yachting industry and it won’t be long until we see the first fully electric superyacht make its appearance. We still need to wait for improved battery capacity.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2019 and beyond.

New Materials, Eco-friendly, Multi-functional, Quality, Innovation
