Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)
The family business was founded in 1979 so I have spent the last 20 years building luxury custom home with a passion for design.
How would you describe your personal design style?
Transitional- Tastefully traditional with my own modern elegant touches and flair
Where does your design inspiration come from?
Today there is so much information coming at us all the time it is hard not to draw inspiration from the internet and social media. Outside of this I am constantly inspired by the natural beauty of a city like Vancouver. However with travel being a passion of mine, I find a lot of my inspiration during these times; relaxed and able to fully indulge in new surroundings and sights.
In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
Design today has to incorporate the natural world much like our house Element Estates; Fire, air, and water. That being said integrating technology into the home in a non-intrusive way is also a major factor.
Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2020 and beyond.
Sustainability in the products we use.
Indoor/outdoor lifestyle.
Incorporating technology in an unobtrusive way.
Natural textures and tones.
Lighting themes to create a natural environment for our lifestyle.
If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
Do not be afraid to be original, and incorporate current trends but honour traditional themes.
How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
These awards are highly esteemed and regarded, to be involved is an honour I do not take lightly. I also feel the Awards are very important in bringing awareness and credibility to our brand.
What projects are you currently working on?
We are currently working on a very involved heritage restoration that includes a 10,000 square foot addition, moving the original detached garage across the property and turning it in to a functional pool house.
