Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)
I have been in the design industry for close to twenty years, inspired by my mother who was also an Interior Designer. I have worked for several small companies and a luxury residential developer before launching my own company.
How would you describe your personal design style? My personal design style reflects an aesthetic of cleaner lines, layered in pattern and colour. I enjoy working with clients who are willing to step outside their comfort zone to create spaces that are comfortable, interesting and a true reflection of their lives.
Where does your design inspiration come from? I spent the first 20 years of my life abroad in Thailand, Singapore, Bahrain and England, and have travelled quite extensively. I find inspiration by exploring other cultures’ customs, architecture, and use of colour in all areas. I also love spending time by the water and often find inspiration in nature and its ever-changing beauty.
Name five key themes to consider when approaching design.
A special focus on sustainable design, organic and natural products.
If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
Have fun! and as I always joke with my clients “Trust your Designer!”
How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
I am honoured to be part of such a wonderful representation of international design, and think they are very important to highlight both smaller and large firms that may not otherwise get international exposure. A lot of people are doing fantastic work that doesn’t get seen outside of their region.
What projects are you currently working on?
Several custom home projects and a condominium lobby refurbishment.
What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
In addition to my interior design business, I am currently working to launch an online company, that will offer some wonderful home products…to be revealed shortly! I am also contemplating a move back to London in the next couple of years!
Your favourite food and drink? Thai food and a glass of Far Niente Cabernet (not together!)
If you weren’t a designer, what would you be? I volunteer and serve on the Board of Directors of a non- profit that mentors and provides programming for at-risk youth in a marginalised area of Toronto. I would definitely work with children in mental health and wellness.
Anything else interesting? I’m a one (wo)man show in business and a single mum to two daughters who truly are my biggest inspiration and motivators to keep pushing forward. The backbone behind my success is owed to my ever-supportive parents.
