Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc):

We treasure a combined experience of 15 years in design of which 9 of them are in the yacht industry. Our team comes from different backgrounds and cultures, that’s our strength. Our mind is always open, never fixed and single angled. We are a blend of heterogeneous pieces, like a fine mosaic, that creates a synergical outcome. As Gestalt claimed, our team results in something more powerful than the sum of the parts

How would you describe your personal design style?

Our philosophy is built around the pillar that says that the success of an idea resides on its quality and not only the face behind. We strongly believe that being sustainable is also a mindset where the quality prevails amongst quantity and that luxury resides on a smart use of materials and spaces. Respect traditions, dare to innovate.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

It really depends on the project we are working on. We don’t stick to just one source of inspiration. Like the greatest innovators who dared to disrupt and shape the future, such as Da Vinci or Gaudí, we soak up ideas and creativity from our experiences and what sorround us. But first of all, we firmly believe, like Picasso once said, “inspiration exists, but it has to find you working”.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

We are living in an era where the Planet, our Planet, is demanding us to be more respectful, more environmentally-aware. As yacht designers, we firmly believe that this industry can be a great part in the change. Nowadays, design studios and builders are paying more and more attention to implement green-engines, eco-friendly materials, and technologies that take into account the importance and well-being of our eco-systems and the preservation of the underwater habitats. We, as Hidden Portside, are truly committed to this trend and we hope that this challenge can also be an opportunity to see more variety, design speaking, in the yachting landscape.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2020 and beyond.

First of all Quality over Quantity, we do not agree on filling a vessel with repeating spsces and areas thst will not be used.

Circular design (life cycle of the product), this is basically a smart way of thinking any project.

Explore, there are many meanings, to this, but mainly explore what we can do, and how much we can push the boundaries.

Smart-Luxury, an Intelligent use of space and resources, luxury is not opulence and lavishness any more, it is something much deeper and complex.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?

Start with the GA. Unfortunately, the GA is a part of the design process very underrated, when actually it is the backbone of any project.

We are ready to be a real presence in the market and we are looking forward to sharing with the industry and the world our vision, values and mission.

What projects are you currently working on?

We are developing a range around 50m/500GT with different approaches. Focusing on certain areas depending on how you will live the boat. We are also working on some conceptual vessels that go far beyond the private yachting industry.
