Situated in Kensington, London, the Kensington Quarter Café at Hotel Indigo is a multi-functional local deli space, complete with private dining snug area, to give residents a place to meet and shop for locally sourced artisan produce while allowing guests of the hotel to feel connected to the neighbourhood.
Dexter Moren Associates were engaged by InterContinental Hotel Group to undertake a comprehensive refurbishment to the public areas of Hotel Indigo Kensington and create a space that would become a local landmark. The brief was about developing a neighbourhood story to re-invigorate the site; creating a ‘local living room’ (hotel reception) and a local deli (food and beverage offer).
Dexter Moren Associates worked closely with IHG to develop a new food & beverage concept which sets a precedent for the brand, namely by introducing an artisan deli / retail element which provides an offering for local residents and hotel guests not currently offered within the local area.
The spaces have been designed to be multi-functional and adaptive, for example the “snug” are can be partitioned off via fluted glass screens and booked for private events.
A balance has been created between a space which is part of the hotel but also feels independent and authentic. We achieved this by designing separate street entrances with differentiated branding for the hotel and café. The space is also highly flexible in order to work successfully for breakfast and lunch and then adapt to become an intimate restaurant and wine bar in the evening.
