DiGuiseppe Architect have been shortlisted for Hotel Under 200 Rooms – Global Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2020.

The Artezen Hotel, designed by DiGuiseppe Architect, is a boutique hotel that is centred on combining art and zen. Located in Manhattan, the hotel design gives a nod to the iconic 1690 history of the leather industry in Downtown New York.

With a total of 89 guest rooms, this boutique hotel has been designed to provide a serene, art filled oasis amidst the hectic Wall Street environment which surrounds it. Inside the front window, and a face to the lively, public street is a sculpture collaboration between ceramicist Kate Brittin Shaw and designer Anthony DiGuiseppe. Other artwork inside the hotel includes; the detailed millwork in the lobby which incorporates hand stitched leather, the strikingly vibrant blue onyx water feature and the specialist tucked and pulled sheared headboards in the guestrooms. The hotel blends art and zen, which is exuded in the artwork and artistic nature of the details. Rarely seen in the fast-paced and chaotic world of Wall Street just outside the door, the art and design provide a space of oasis and creates a calming atmosphere for guests to relax.

The Artezen Hotel is located on John Street, which was the location of the main shoemaker and leather industry in 1690, in the Dutch Colony of New Amsterdam. A nod to this fact is prevalent in the choice of materials used by DiGuiseppe Architect throughout the hotel. All of the furniture pieces have been designed by DiGuiseppe and made in Vietnam, or by local artisans in Astoria, New York. The hotel spaces are small and the attention to detail in the lobby, corridors and guestrooms capitalise on the detail to compensate for the tightness of the spaces.

Since its opening in April 2019, the hotel has been 100% occupied ever since, proving that the design has been well received by its guests. The Artezen Hotel provides a calming and comfortable escape for guests, whilst telling the historical tale of the leather industry through its intricate design details.
