design et al are delighted to announce that Fenton Whelan Design Ltd have been shortlisted for Luxury Residence – London Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.
Eaton Place Penthouse is comprised of a spectacular triplex penthouse set across two Grade II listed townhouses in the heart of Belgravia. The townhouse forms part of a terrace of listed buildings, which characterise the immediate Belgravia area. The decorative façades combine classical style with painted render and brickwork, pilasters, and entrance porticos. The brief was to restore and refurbish the top 3 floors across two Grade II* listed townhouses, re-imagining the periods classical details with luxury modern finishes and fittings.
This general brief comprised many elements, including: completely re-designing the layout of the property; incorporating the common parts staircase to re-imagine the orientation of the stair to create triple height space; removing the entire top floor and replacing with a new construction to provide incredible light and a wall of south facing windows with views of the London skyline; linking all floors by a new internal lift; accentuating classical features with the use of cornices, mouldings and coffers; provide 6 exceptional bedroom suites all with their own style and bespoke joinery; and create a spectacular south facing terrace at the highest point in Belgravia conservation area.
For Fenton Whelan Design, the key aspect of the project was the removal of the existing staircase and replacing it with a spectacular triple height space leading to the top floor lounge/reception room with a wall of glass leading onto the south facing terrace. The design of the Eaton Place Penthouse both highlights the traditional elements of the original building through sensitive refurbishment and re-design, while at the same time bringing a contemporary feel to the property. Much of the design is unique and created especially for the space itself, to enhance the buildings attributes and provide the feeling of bespoke luxury throughout.
