Georgian Dublin – Pied a Terre by Hélène Broderick Interiors

Hélène Broderick Interiors have been shortlisted for City Space – Global Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2020.

Hélène Broderick Interiors has completed a classic, contemporary and sympathetic refurbishment of this 1000 square foot, 2 bedroom apartment in Georgian Dublin, Ireland. Having been given complete control of the design for the home in Ballsbridge, Hélène Broderick Interiors ensured that the property encapsulates modern luxury whilst still paying homage to both it’s history and surroundings.

The aim of the refurbishment was to create a classic yet contemporary interior that was also in keeping with the period of the property, ensuring that all changes and additions were sympathetic with the property’s heritage; from the cornices, to the ceiling roses, and joinery elements. The designers had to ensure that modernising the property would not be at the expense of it’s heritage.

The client wanted the property to epitomise the ultimate in luxury & to create something truly beautiful where they could live & entertain. The main area of the apartment features grand rooms with high ceilings, exuding luxury and a sense of grandeur. The period cornices, ceiling roses and doors are blended with the classic contemporary bespoke furnishings. Ballsbridge is an area with many fine Victorian & Georgian period properties and so the scale and grandeur of the design of the apartment reflects its neighbouring properties, squares, and seamlessly blends in.

The original bi-folding doors were closed off between the main reception room and master bedroom. Hélène Broderick Interiors chose to open these doors to provide a link between the two rooms to interconnect them. This transformed this space to a glorious natural light filled area. Wallpaper panels provide a visual connection between the master bedroom and reception room, complemented by custom-made chandeliers from Villa Verde. Since space in this city apartment is limited, Hélène Broderick Interiors developed the idea for a concealed kitchen that when covered could double as a display unit to showcase the client’s ornaments, rather than incorporating a separate kitchen.
