In the story of New York City, Murray Hill has long been home to America’s founding captains of industry. Generations of high society have bestowed the neighbourhood with architectural gems of their successes. Drawing on this history, Glen & Company were inspired to create a hotel experience that referenced the glamour and scale of the residential brownstones which line the side streets of Murray Hill. The exterior of Pestana Park Avenue is typical of the local environment and integrates seamlessly with the historic facades, yet Glen & Company’s carefully crafted design for the interior of the hotel expresses the essence of both the classic residential style of the neighbourhood and the sense of Portuguese style.
Glen & Company sought to bring a sense of luxury to the micro hotel, creating a guest experience that is thoughtfully detailed as well as beautifully executed. Decorative architectural mouldings, high ceilings and a marble fireplace are accented with custom fabricated contemporary furniture and all the state-of-the-art amenities that a modern traveller could desire. The combination of clean lines and warm tones within both the rooms and public areas exude relaxed luxury. Reminiscent of a residential style, Glen & Company’s modest design choices provide guests with an elevated congenial comfort.
Pestana Park Avenue pays homage to its Portuguese ownership by exclusively showcasing art installations by Portuguese photographers and craftspeople. Artisans from the legendary tile factory Viuva Lamengo worked with Glen & Company to create a New York City interpretation of Portuguese Tile Art or ‘Azulejaria’, which can be discovered accented throughout the hotel. Glen & Company’s work balances the essential elements of Portuguese design with a New York sensibility; showcasing Pestana Hotels’ history as well as ensuring that the hotel guests’ needs remain a priority.
