Set within a beautifully restored Victorian house in Hampstead, this kitchen explores a contemporary palette with a striking marble island.
The clients decided to refurbish the whole house shortly after purchasing, opting to open-up the kitchen and ground floor living areas, making it more suitable for a dynamic family.
The brief was to create a striking yet practical family kitchen, in a Victorian house in Hampstead. Located in such a historic part of town, the LANSERRING design team set out to develop an aesthetic to compliment the buildings rich vernacular. The team wanted to explore this spirit, using a palette contemporary to the time in a style that reflected a home in the 21st century.
LANSERRING decided on a palette of materials from traditional styling in rococo and ornate interiors: brass, oak and marble. The intention was to take old-fashioned opulence and reinterpret it as contemporary luxury. The team particularly wanted to use materials that would age gracefully over time, to bring even more character to a space created specifically for the client.
To ensure the kitchen was up to the rigorous needs of everyday family life, LANSERRING chose hardwearing Lapitec for the work surfaces.
LANSERRING reviewed over fifty Breccia Capraia marble slabs from the quarry in Tuscany before they found the correct grain pattern for the space. The energy in this stone is balanced by the calming tones in the oiled oak furniture.
Another key aspect is the useful pantry concealed behind pocket doors. This practical space gracefully merges functionality with elegance, providing additional storage and day-to-day organization of the family life. It also promotes sophistication with its rich colour palette.
The way the team have used marble to define the space is an interesting conversation between uniformity and abstract. The resulting environment is a stimulating and emotional space, expertly organised using clearly defined architectural parameters.
