design et al are delighted to announce that Harrods Interiors has been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – UK Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.
The client’s favourite aspect of her home is watching the seasonal changes in the surrounding parklands from the upstairs windows of her property. Accordingly, to emphasise this feature the Harrods Interiors design team redesigned the 2nd floor of a Putney residence with a scheme inspired by nature’s seasons, and with an emphasis on providing spatial solutions to suit the client’s requirements. Creating a more functional space for the client, the team converted a 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom space into a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom space with an independent walk-in wardrobe.
Aiming to make better use of the property’s limited space, the brief for this project was to redesign the 2nd floor of a home in Putney. Born out of the client’s frustration with the limited space on her second floor, the Harrods Interiors team were tasked with the strip-out and redesign of the floor in order to provide not only a decorative solution, but spatial solutions increasing the functionality of the space. The scope of work for the project included interior design, interior architecture & bespoke joinery. Additionally, in order to further emphasise the spatial improvements made by the design team a number of bespoke pieces were created to allow for the limited space and to provide functionality whilst creating the illusion of more space.
Taking inspiration from the client’s favourite aspect of the property: the constant change of seasons reflected from her bedroom window and the colour-scape it creates, the scheme for this project takes its cues from the season. As a result, the design features hues of blues and tropical prints reminiscent of summers abroad, soft greens and fresh neutrals to represent the first flowers of spring and cooler tones in the bathrooms to depict moody winters. All uses of colour are deliberately subtle, as in nature, and are supported through the use of natural materials, such as wool, silk, timber & linen throughout the design.
