design et al are delighted to announced that ID21 have been shortlisted in the Office category with Singapore project ‘Country Garden’ at the International Design & Architecture Awards 2015.
A warm and organic property developer’s sales gallery in the midst of Singapore’s urban concrete jungle.
Singapore’s central business district is synonymous with steely skyscrapers and cold, unwelcoming facades. It is also the chosen location for the retail gallery of Country Garden, one of China’s residential real estate developers.
With this gallery as its first foray into Singapore, the client was determined that it should be warm and inviting; and, therefore, markedly different from everything else in the neighbourhood.
The challenge for the design team was to develop a visual and user experience design perspective that is agile enough to house three distinct show-flat configurations, while espousing the voice of a formidable Asian brand.
In embracing the concept of “modern Asian opulence”, the designers introduced a perforated illumination ceiling art and a giant indoor video wall that amalgamates seamlessly vis-à-vis a green living wall into a luscious floral backdrop, one that intersperses rhythmically with mirror and custom-crafted woodworks.
A warm colour scheme with metallic “starlight” fixtures was chosen to contrast with the concrete grey hues outside. The design team envisioned the space as an iconic respite and one that would immerse potential buyers into the lifestyle experience of owning one of the three featured properties.
A thoughtful transfer of ideals from designers to carpenters means that a delicate craftsmanship of woodworks gives this project its well deserved accolade.
The design is particularly successful in that it stands out from the rest of the cold, steely facades of buildings in Singapore’s financial district.
