Congratulations to IGGI Interior Design who have been shortlisted for Living Space – London Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2019

design et al are delighted to announce that IGGI Interior Design have been shortlisted for Living Space – London Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.

IGGI Interior Design’s clients for this project are a young family with a large contemporary art collection and a busy lifestyle who do a lot of entertaining at home. Their home is a duplex penthouse in St Johns Wood, London which recently added an additional floor. This was a 4-year project from start to finish and IGGI Interior Design joined the project in the last stages to help this family get the home they wanted.

The brief from the client was to create a glamorous family home that could accommodate the large art collection as well as host up to 80 people for events. The upper level of the penthouse was to be used for more formal occasions, the main living room, dining room are located here. These flexible entertainment spaces needed to be designed to ensure that there was a lot of seating and space to move about. The large dining room table, which is usually set up as two single tables, can join and extend to accommodate 36 people for a formal dinner.

Iggi Interior Design ensured that both upper and lower levels were suited to their uses. Making the most of the artwork by ensuring that the soft furnishings, wall coverings and lighting enhanced rather than detracted from the art collection. On the lower level of the penthouse, the designers toned down formality and introduced a lot of colour, the family room and playroom in particular. Soft relaxed seating, blinds instead of curtains and an informal dining area meant that the family would probably spend a lot of time in this room so IGGI needed to ensure it would work for their lifestyle.

The success of this project lies in the expression of the clients favourite things, being an established family with an art and furniture collection, made it easier for IGGI Interior Design to establish colour palettes, scale and other basics, but the real challenge for the designers was making it work seamlessly together. This duplex penthouse also benefits from large glass windows and doors, making the most of the immediate surroundings of the London skyline. IGGI Interior Design ensured that there was enough space to incorporate these views, for both the family who live there and the guests who will be attending their events.
