Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)

I studied in Cape Town and went on to open my own furniture design studio. I then moved to the UK in 1999 and worked for two designers before heading up the design department at an international architectural practice.

How would you describe your personal interior design style?

I don’t think I have a style per se, just a professional approach to every project. They all require the same input and level of dedication no matter the size.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

Where do I start…everywhere.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

Style is moving in all directions, but design is moving into the future making use of modern technology.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2013 and beyond

Planning, programme, achievability, practicality and budget.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to interior design schemes, what would it be?

Whatever you do, do it well.

How important are The International Design and Architecture Awards as recognition of talent and achievement?

Hugely! They allow the broader public exposure to the latest designs while recognising the talent and effort made by the designers and the design community as a whole.

What projects are you currently working on?

An 88 bedroom boutique hotel, a large apartment in central London, a 44m luxury yacht, a mansion flat in Kensington, a very large home in Moscow.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?

To expand the studio and develop a range of furniture and fabrics and home wares.
